Reputable breeders distinguish themselves from puppy-producers/puppy raisers in many ways. They feel responsibility for the individual dogs they produce and to the breed as a whole; therefore they usually associate themselves with organizations that promote and protect the breed.
The primary inclusion criteria for breeders to be listed on this site is affiliation with the Weimaraner Club of America or the Weimaraner Association of Canada. Other acceptable criteria is affiliation or recommendation by local Weimaraner clubs or other dog clubs (e.g., local kennel clubs, performance clubs, the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association, etc.).
To the Puppy Purchaser
The main goal of good breeders is to find life-long, loving homes for their puppies. Even if you are looking for “just” a pet, it is worth going to a reputable breeder that produces well-bred puppies from proven parents. These puppies most often have the genetics that make them what a Weimaraner should be — not only in conformation, ability and performance, but also in character, health and temperament.
The list provided on this site is merely a starting point for your search. Consider this site akin to a dating site that will introduce you to breeders, but it is up to you to do your due diligence. This checklist for the responsible breeder is one of the best guidelines to follow as you talk to various breeders.
To the Weimaraner Breeder
Weimaranerbreeders.org does not accept ads, sponsorships or endorsements. (In other words, you can’t pay to be listed here.) Each breeder is manually reviewed and vetted. Listings are loosely categorized as “show,” “field,” “versatile,” or “companion.” “Show” means competing in AKC or CKC conformation events. “Field” means competing in adult (“broke”) competition or evaluations. “Versatile” means involvement in multiple disciplines; for example, show dogs that also compete in hunt tests. Please understand that these category lines can be blurry. Potential owners and breeders should discuss this with each other more thoroughly.
Please contact me if there are any errors in your listing or you would like to be removed. If you would like to be listed, please contact me with information about yourself, your dogs and club affiliations.
